Ein großer Teil unseres Studiums dreht sich um fremde Kulturen, Interkulturalität und unseren gewählten Kulturraum. Doch oft hört man von Kommilitonen, dass sie noch nie in das jeweilige Land reisen konnten, keinen persönlichen Bezug haben. Sprich das,was sie in der Theorie lernen, kaum anwenden können. Interkulturelle Kommunikation spielt für uns eine große Rolle – nicht nur in der Theorie! Deswegen gibt es immer mehr Angebote, um genau diese Theorien in die Praxis umzusetzen. Eines dieser Angebote ist die „Global Community of Creative Thinkers“.
Doch was genau ist das für eine Community?
Im Großen und Ganzen ist sie eine multikulturelle Gruppe von Schülern*innen und Studenten*innen aus der ganzen Welt – unter anderem aus der USA, Kanada, Indien, Honduras und Deutschland.
Sie treffen sich jeden ersten Samstag im Monat für eine Stunde über Zoom. Während dieser Zoom-Sessions lernen die Teilnehmenden neue Kulturen kennen, arbeiten an multikulturellen Projekten und erweitern ihre kreativen Denkfähigkeiten.
Man bekommt die Chance, neue interkulturelle Perspektiven kennen zu lernen und hat die Möglichkeit, internationale Freundschaften mit Personen aus vielen interessanten Ländern zu schließen.
Geleitet wird das Projekt von der University of Minnesota Duluth, welche schon seit vielen Jahren in Kooperation mit der Uni Passau steht. Jeder kann sich mit Ideen aller Art einbringen: sei es mit selbstgeplanten Projekten im Zusammenhang mit der jeweils anderen Kultur oder einer kreativen Denkaufgabe für die ganze Gruppe. It’s an open space for all!

A big part of the ICBS program is about foreign cultures, interculturality and our chosen cultural area that we focus our studies on. Unfortunately many students never got any chance to travel to that foreign country or use their theoretical knowledge for practical culture exchange. Intercultural communication plays such a big role for us and not just theoretically, which is why there are more and more projects developing around this cross-cultural exchange. One of them being the “Global Community of Creative Thinkers”.
What is this Community all about?
Overall the group consists of high school and college-aged students from all over the globe – including countries such as the USA, Canada, India, Honduras and Germany.
They meet every first Saturday of a month for 1 hour over Zoom to meet new cultures and work on our creative-thinking skills. This opens up the opportunity to connect with people from all over the world, built international friendships and learn a lot about other cultures.
The project is run by the University of Minnesota Duluth, which has been cooperating with the University of Passau for many years. Everybody can bring in their own ideas and wishes and you are welcome to prepare activities, concerning cultural exchange, creative thinking etc., for the monthly sessions. It’s an open space for all!
